SITUATION A : ASSESSING & RESOLVING ORGANIZATIONAL BARRIERS

Client Profile:
· a division in a public sector organization with professional staff and support staff
 
Required Outcomes:
· identify and develop actions to resolve any remaining barriers to full system implementation
· determine mechanisms to improve cross-unit communication and enhance co-operation

P.P.S.I. Response
· conducted 1 on 1 interviews to determine root issues and design appropriate workshop focus
· conducted 2 sessions, using visioning processes, force field analysis, and issue classification methods
· based on workshop outcomes, prepared a report that classified the types of changes being experienced & the impact on required skills and behaviours; synthesized concerns into 17 pressure areas that were limiting effectiveness; and summarized 22 priority action ideas within 4 broad areas to sustain the changes, as identified by the staff

Assignment Outcomes
Within 2 years, the division had:
· fully implemented 11 of the action ideas; partially implemented 8; and progressing with 3 items
· implemented regular all-staff, cross-departmental planning meetings
· developed further recommendations to build on the progress of the initial plan, and re-engaged PPSI to conduct a series of manager, staff, and all-staff sessions to resolve outstanding issues
